Parish Council Website
I recently had the pleasure of working with Kingston Parish Council, based in the beautiful village of Kingston in South Devon, to give their website a much-needed refresh.
Key Features
- WordPress
- Kadence
- Events Calendar
- Document Download Management
- Photo Gallery
The council’s previous site, built with WordPress, had become difficult to manage over time. It lacked a clear structure, making it challenging for both administrators and visitors to find key information. The council regularly shares meeting minutes, newsletters, and updates on local events—so improving accessibility and usability was a top priority.
A Clean, Professional New Look
The new website features a clean and professional design that reflects the character of the village while making it easier to navigate. We implemented a well-organised layout that highlights:
- Parish Council Documents: Using a user-friendly downloads plugin, uploading monthly meeting minutes and village newsletters is now simple and intuitive. Best of all, the system works seamlessly whether the user is using a computer or an iPad.
- News & Events: We introduced a proper blog-style news section and an interactive events calendar, making it easy for residents to stay informed about what’s happening in the village.
- Village Photo Gallery: To celebrate Kingston’s history, the site includes a gallery of historic village photos—bringing a touch of nostalgia and local pride to the digital space.
A .gov.uk top level domain name
Kingston Parish Council also needed to start using a .gov.uk domain name and set up individual email addresses for each councillor, that used this domain name, rather than councillors’ own email personal email addresses. We were pleased to be able to obtain this top level domain for them at a very reasonable price.
The Kingston Parish Council is particularly happy with how easy it is to manage the new site on their own. By simplifying the backend and focusing on practical features, we’ve helped them create a modern platform that supports both their administrative needs and community engagement goals.
