I have finally been able to launch the new website for Badgers Cleaning Services, a carpet and upholstery cleaning company based in Ivybridge, Devon. It’s been a long journey with some challenges on the way, but with a successful outcome.
The old website was ranking very well in the search engines and bringing in plenty of leads. However it was in need of a revamp, to make the information clearer and easier to find and modernise the overall look. It was important to redesign in such as way as to maintain the excellent search engine optimisation.
I prepared the new website on a private staging site where business owner, Kevin Bates, could review my work and give me feedback during its progress. I also visited Kevin whilst he was working locally, to take new photos of him and what he does. Many people feel reluctant to have photos of themselves on their own website, however I felt it important that potential customers see who Kevin is, as they will be inviting him into their homes to clean their floors and carpets.
The new site was built quickly and was ready for launch several weeks ago, however we ran into a problem concerning the domain name and its ownership. Kevin wanted me to host the new website and therefore we needed to transfer the domain name. The original website designer had unfortunately registered the domain name in his own name, rather than Kevin’s and sadly he passed away last year. This presented us with a problem: how could we initiate the transfer? Because Kevin wasn’t the registered owner of the domain, the registrar wouldn’t release it to him.
Fortunately Kevin was able to make contact with the original designer’s widow, who very kindly assisted us in retrieving the domain name and we were successfully able to transfer the domain name and launch the site.
